As we shared last week, on 18 May CFRE International hosted an invitation-only symposium entitled The Public, the Personal, the Philanthropic: German-American Perspectives on Giving and Engagement in advance of the German Fundraising Association Congress in Berlin.
The symposium’s first speaker was Kimberly Marteau Emerson, an attorney and civic leader whose husband John B. Emerson serves as the US Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany. Mrs. Emerson’s remarks – linked here – focused on the impact of 19th and 20th century German immigration to America on developing philanthropy as an integral part of the American story as well as modern examples of German and American philanthropic cooperation. CFRE International thanks Mrs. Emerson for her gracious participation at the event and for allowing us to share here remarks here with you.
