Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access

Our Commitment

CFRE International is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access as keys to strengthening the philanthropic sector. With certificants in nearly 30 countries, we know individuals from all areas of life and corners of the world greatly contribute to advancing the fundraising profession. We will continue to promote ethical fundraising and collaborate with others to champion a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible sector.

We are committed to engaging in continuous organizational review and improvement of all aspects of the CFRE certification program, including issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. As a learning organization, we understand that we cannot remain still. We must constantly examine what we do—and how we do it—to do our part in building a fundraising profession where all work together to reach their potential; and in doing so, build a stronger and better world.

Our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access is achieved through:

  • Building volunteer leadership and staff teams that reflect the breadth of backgrounds, characteristics, and experiences of those in the fundraising profession and professional association spaces.
  • Being mindful of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access concerns impacting the CFRE certification program.
  • Fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment where every individual feels a profound sense of belonging. We recognize that diversity brings a wealth of perspectives, equity ensures fair treatment, and belonging is essential for a thriving community. Our commitment goes beyond representation and fairness to ensure that everyone feels valued and integrated into our organization.
  • Understanding that achieving true belonging is an ongoing journey and are dedicated to learning, growing, and adapting to ensure that every member of our community feels welcomed and supported.
  • Sponsoring organizations and programs within the fundraising profession that champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
  • Providing space for and encouraging important discussions regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, and access within the CFRE community.
  • Partnering with other leading organizations within the fundraising profession on research initiatives targeting topics on diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
  • Being at the ready to participate actively as a full partner in opportunities to support diversity, equity, inclusion, and access within the fundraising profession.
  • A person appointed by the Chair of the Board to serve as the Chair’s Advisor on diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
