A Mission Inspired by Care and Support

My path into fundraising began long before my career. It was shaped by witnessing philanthropy in action throughout my life. From the Presbyterians who sponsored my parents' escape from Laos to my father quietly caring for neighbors after long workdays, I grew up seeing how generosity changes lives.

Serving as philanthropy chair of Alpha Sigma Alpha at Loyola University Chicago, I organized our sorority's annual day of community service at a local home for seniors, where we beautified the gardens by pulling weeds and planting flowers. What stayed with me most was not just the transformation of the space, but the visible joy it brought to the residents. Even small acts of service can make people feel valued and connected. That experience transformed my philanthropic awareness into purpose, igniting my passion for helping others and setting me on the path to a mission-driven career.

Throughout my career, each cause I've supported—spanning education, healthcare, social services, and community development—reflects a commitment to strengthening the systems that lift people up. Seeing firsthand how nonprofit organizations meet essential needs and spark lasting change continually renews my drive to do this work.

I'm most proud of helping organizations build clarity and confidence in their fundraising. The resilience and dedication of the communities and leaders I serve inspire me to bring equal heart and dedication to this field.

Returning the Gift of Knowledge and Growth

When I first earned my CFRE, I was privileged to work for a supportive organization that was willing to invest in my professional growth and development. The process helped prepare me for greater job responsibilities, and I earned a promotion with a raise after earning the certification.

Now, the CFRE is a way for me to prioritize keeping up with evolving trends which has made me a more effective consultant. It allows me to dig into emerging ideas and strategies that my clients don't often have the time to explore when they're focused on fundraising and managing their teams. It allows me to be a thoughtful partner and resource, offering practical solutions to help them on the path to success.

I'm actively involved with the AFP Greater Detroit Chapter, where I serve on the board and have contributed to educational programming, including CFRE review courses. I've also served as a workshop leader, panelist, and mentor, sharing practical guidance and encouraging others pursuing career growth or certification. These roles allow me to give back to a profession that has deeply shaped my own path. Supporting emerging professionals and future fundraisers has been especially meaningful, as I see pieces of my own journey reflected in theirs.

Commit to Your Professional Future

Earning my CFRE stands out as a testament to my commitment to strengthening the sector. Now that I’m no longer a frontline fundraiser, sharing what I've learned in my journey feels like a meaningful way to give back to a profession that has given so much to me. This work can be demanding, but the relationships we build and the impact we help create make it deeply worthwhile.

Earning the CFRE opens doors by offering credibility, career advancement, and a deeper understanding of best practices that elevate your work. If you're committed to the profession, the CFRE is one of the most impactful investments you can make in your future.
