Yesterday (September 17, 2025), CFRE International became aware of a potential security issue affecting CFRE’s website (cfre.org). Some visitors may have encountered a fraudulent “CAPTCHA” prompt designed to trick users into clicking malicious links. Our team has fully investigated and resolved the problem by removing all malicious malware code from the site.
The CFRE website (cfre.org) is now safe to use.
If you encountered a “CAPTCHA” prompt on the CFRE website (cfre.org), we recommend
- running a security scan using a trusted antivirus or anti-malware software,
- clearing your browser cache and cookies, and
- reviewing your browser’s notification permissions (disabling anything suspicious).
The issue impacted cfre.org only, not the My CFRE Account portal or CFRE Central online community. Personal information (name, address, phone number, email) was not compromised. We do not store credit card information on any CFRE website domain (cfre.org, My CFRE Account portal, CFRE Central), so credit card information was also not compromised. While no sensitive information was compromised, we continue to encourage everyone to use safe browsing practices, such as keeping your software up to date and running regular security scans on your devices.
Moving forward, we have implemented stronger security safeguards to ensure that your experience on our website remains secure. Your trust is very important to us, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and transparency.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out at share@cfre.org.
