Call for Board Nominations

The Committee on Directorship announces that it will accept nominations for candidates to serve as Board members of CFRE International. (Click here for a printable version)

In the Fall 2008 election, CFRE certificants will elect three members, as follows:

  • Two (2) CFRE-certificant board members.  Two current CFRE-certificant board members are eligible for reappointment in this election

AND

  • One (1) public member who is intended to be an individual who represents the direct and indirect users of certificants' skills/services, such as an employer, funder and/or donor.  The current public member is not eligible to run again.

Submissions for consideration must be received by the close of business on Friday 8 August 2008.

CFRE Certificant for Consideration:

All CFRE certificants in good standing are invited to submit names for consideration by the Committee on Directorship.  All candidates to be considered must be currently certified as a CFRE in good standing and have recertified at least once.  Individuals interested in applying for consideration who are in their recertification grace period should first submit a completed recertification application.

CFRE International seeks to have its Board be representative of the certificant population at-large and all candidates are welcome to self-nominate, or be nominated by someone else.

The Committee on Directorship takes into consideration factors including, but not limited to: geographic location, staff position or consultant, type and size of employing organisation, as well as those with skills that complement those current serving on the Board.  Prospective candidates also are strongly encouraged to have experience participating in volunteer activities with CFRE International and be actively involved in promoting the credential.

CFRE Certificants on this ballot will be elected to one three-year term.  Click here for forms.

Public Member for Consideration:

The Public Member is a full-voting member of the Board, with all the rights and responsibilities of CFRE-certificant board members.  The position of the public member is intended to be an individual who represents the direct and indirect users of certificants' skills/services.  The public member may be a professional, but should not have similar credentials to the certificants.

The Public Member on this ballot will be elected to one one-year term, so as to assist with realigning the board rotation schedule.  Public Members will be elected to three-year terms in subsequent elections.

CFRE International’s Public Member position complies with the National Commission for Certifying Agencies’ (NCCA) requirements.  As a result, neither the public member, nor his or her immediate family members can:

  • be members of the certified profession
  • be employers or employees of someone who is a member of the certified profession
  • be employees of any certifying organisation
  • have derived more than 5% of his/her income from the profession being certified

Performance Expectations:

The CFRE International Board holds two face-to-face meetings a year (typically in June and December) and several conference calls.  Board members are expected to participate in all aspects of examination development, including item writing and review, and/or to actively serve on at least one committee.    CFRE International does pay for travel expenses to attend Board meetings.

The CFRE International Board of Directors is comprised of eleven (11) individuals.  Ten (10) individuals are currently certified fundraising professionals; one (1) is a member of the public at large.

The Committee on Directorship will review submissions and suggestions in mid-August.  The Committee on Directorship reviews all candidates and their qualifications.

The Committee uses a matrix of skills held by current board members to assist with identifying complementary skills and abilities.  In addition, the Committee conducts comprehensive candidate interviews.  Candidates are also asked to submit volunteer references, although this is not required at the time of original submission.

A slate of well-qualified and screened nominees is then selected and submitted for acceptance by CFRE certificants in early October.

Any questions about board service or the Committee on Directorship should be directed to the President and CEO, Morgean Hirt at +1 703.820.5555, x100 or mhirt@cfre.org.  Current Board members can be made available to speak with you if you would like to discuss first-hand CFRE board service.
